Aston Martin DB2 Vantage, 1952 information

David Brown bought the Aston Martin factory in 1947. The factory had already passed into other hands. The famous brand paid an important role in the racing world, but the cars were difficult to sell.
The take-over purchase by David brought a reversal for the British brand, which appeals to everyone’s imagination nowadays. The first DB "David Brown" Aston Martin was the DB1 from 1948, which was fitted with a rather dismal four-cylinder engine.
The DB2 brought the magic on which the brand was to build.  The Aston Martin DB2, in production from May 1950 until April 1953, was David Brown’s first Aston Sporting Saloon with only 411 DB2 ‘s originally built. The DB2 is known for it's excellent handling and the beautiful Frank Feeley designed bodywork.
The engines were designed by W.O. Bentley, who was working for Lagonda, another enterprise of Browns’. The enormous six-cylinder in-line engines had two overhead camshafts, and were provided with two carburettors.
The 2580 cc. DOHC engine in Vantage specification delivered 125 bhp. The DB2 featured a four-speed manual gearbox, independent front suspension with coil springs, trailing links and anti-roll bar, live axle at the rear rear with coil springs and Girling hydraulic drum brakes all round.
The Aston Martin DB2 was also very successful in racing. Two Aston Martin DB2 'works' race cars competed successfully at Le Mans in 1950. VMF 63 (LML/50/7) finished 2nd in class and 6th overall. VMF 64 (LML/50/8) finished 5th overall and 1st on Index of Performance and in class. A third car, VMF 65 (LML/50/9), crashed on way to the race and sadly didn't compete. VMF 64 continued to compete by the factory in 1951 with a fantastic 3rd overall at Le Mans (1st in class) and also in the Alpine Rally. In 1952 VMF 64 also participated in the Mille Miglia (12th overall, 1st in class)
