Information

The Porsche 911/ 993 Carrera was built from the year 1993 until 1998. As successor of the 911/964 the car was revised over 80%. The 911 exterior was given a serious resulting in a more powerful appearance. The suspension was greatly improved with a new 'multi link' suspension derived from the Porsche 928 'Weissach' construction. Road holding was greatly improved compared to it's predecessors. Sensitivity to road humps and the tricky over steer due to the rear mounted engine were strongly suppressed in the 993. Also the comfort was improved and the interior noise was dampened making the 911 a far more better companion on long and fast travels.
Three bodywork variants were available of the Porsche 911/ 993; buyers could choose a coupe, a Targa and a cabriolet. The Targa was the most intriguing variant. Porsche had created a very special open top construction for the Targa. The roof top was no longer a separate and detachable part. The 993 Targa roof was made of glass and it slides back completely parallel to the rear window! Very sophisticated and electrically operated. The rear view was not compromised, nor were the sleek looks of the car! Like the 911/964 the 993 was available with rear wheel drive or four wheel drive. The 911/ 993 models were however fitted with a six speed manual or Tiptronic gearbox. The cylinder capacity of the famous Porsche boxer engine was enlarged from 3.2 up to 3.6 Litre and it featured two sparking plugs per cylinder. Next to the Carrera (272 bhp.) we distinguish the following models: the Carrera S (285 bhp.), the light weight Carrera RS (300 bhp.), the Turbo (408 bhp.) and the Turbo S (450 bhp.)
