In the
sixties of the twentieth century Canadians asked Alfa Romeo to design a
car for the future to show at the 1967 world exhibition. In cooperation
with Bertone Alfa Romeo decided to accept the challenge.
The car presented at the 1967 world exhibition, which was held in
Montreal, was based on the Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 racing car and was
designed with a rear mounted V8 engine.
In the year 1970 the show car became reality but now the engine was
front mounted. The car was named Alfa Romeo "Montreal" after the capital
city of Canada. The Alfa Romeo Montreal is powered by a slightly detuned
Tipo 33 V8 engine. This beautiful engine is made of aluminium, is fitted
with double overhead camshafts (DOHC), dry sump oil system and petrol
injection...
All other mechanics are as to be expected from Alfa Romeo in the late
sixties and early seventies of the twentieth century: 5-speed floor
shift gearbox, coil springs all round, independent front suspension,
limited slip differential and disc brakes all round.
The Alfa Romeo Montreal was built until the year 1977, 3925 cars were
built in seven years time.
The Alfa Romeo Montreal drives comfortable/ sportive and is very well
suited to drive long distances; a real GT. The engine sounds incredible,
also inside the cabin. The dashboard design combined with the view over
the bonnet is exquisite.
